Episode 2 - "CUBA"
From the foundation of Ride Nature, people have always seen the good works we have done and been stoked. I mean, who doesn’t love the idea of a little kid living in a third world country receiving a free surfboard or skateboard!?
Giving generously is one of the pillars for the work that we do. The vision and hope of children worldwide getting to enjoy the thrill that action sports can bring was a dream that founded the work of Ride Nature.
But the desire to tie together that free gift of a board with the Good News of Jesus Christ and the free gift of salvation, that is what gives the work we're leading through the organization real purpose.
Situated just 90 miles south of the U.S. boarder, you'll find Cuba. It's by far the closest country that we’ve traveled to, but it might as well have been on the other side of the world with how different it is from the States. It’s like stepping into a time machine and coming out in the 1950’s. Old cars. Dilapidated buildings. Extreme poverty.
When the border opened up to begin traveling to Cuba, we jumped at the opportunity. What we were surprised to find was a community of skaters with little to no access to boards or any other skate product, but a love and passion for the sport that puts most other communities even in the best of areas to shame.
The needs in Cuba are immense; from basic toiletries to Bibles. The proximity of how close we are to this country is hard to imagine and the need is very real.
Please pray for the continued healing and recovery from the years of communism in Cuba. Pray for the leaders in place and for the hope of continuing to invest in new communities outside of Havana. We are excited for the work that the Lord is doing in Cuba and we are stoked to share some of this with you through Episode 2 from this series.
